Scott Stricklin Athletics Director

To date, Napier’s record at Florida stands at 15–18 over three seasons, with a 4-4 tally this year as the team heads into Saturday’s game at Texas. His performance in rivalry games is notably weak at 1-10. Despite a rocky start to this season, the team has recently shown signs of improvement, particularly with quarterback DJ Lagway and a strengthened defense.

This timely announcement could potentially bolster Napier’s recruiting efforts, which have suffered from recent decommitments, leaving the class ranked 51st on the 247 Sports Class Rankings with only 11 commits. Additionally, it may enable Florida to focus fully on the transfer portal. The decision also spares the university from paying Napier’s substantial $26 million buyout, which would have required half upfront and the remainder spread over four years.

As the Gators look to the future under Napier’s continued leadership, the coming months will be crucial for rebuilding momentum. With renewed support from the administration and a call for unity from Gator Nation, all eyes will be on how Napier and his team respond to this vote of confidence. The true measure of success will be seen in the team’s performance on the field and in recruiting battles as they strive to return Florida football to its former glory.
