In a revealing conversation on “Outta Pocket with RGIII,” Lagway opened up about his journey and future at Florida. “Florida is a place that they’re going to build around me… and let me get out there and learn and develop me,” he explained. “I feel like that’s the biggest thing, especially being a young quarterback. And these days you got to go somewhere where you can get developed.”

His growth has been particularly evident in his approach to the game’s mental aspects. “It’s all about becoming a situational expert,” Lagway shared, emphasizing the importance of understanding crucial game scenarios. “Points really matter in college… So all points are valuable.” This maturity was tested during his freshman year, where he faced both triumphs and challenges, including a memorable spring scrimmage that served as his “welcome to college football” moment.

The experience proved invaluable: “I had through like four interceptions, it was bad… I ain’t never seen this coverage, they was going to two hole… I’m like, golly, what is this? Let me get in that lab, let me figure some things out.” Rather than being discouraged, Lagway used these challenges as motivation to improve.

The young quarterback’s humility and work ethic have stood out, especially in his handling of NIL opportunities. While grateful for the chances to support his family, Lagway maintains clear priorities: “It’s a dream come true, but it’s not the end goal… the end goal is the NFL and this is just short term money.” This focused mindset has helped him navigate the increasing attention, even as his profile grows in Gainesville.

His grounded nature comes from a strong faith foundation and family support. “What he gives, he can take away also,” Lagway reflected on his relationship with God. “So just always staying grounded in my faith and my parents instilled that in me at a very young age… just really having that faith foundation has been huge for me.”

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Lagway is particularly excited about his offensive line. “I think the O-Line is going to be the best in America,” he declared confidently. “Everybody’s coming back… and it’s going to click right away.” This enthusiasm is backed by the return of All-American center Jake Slaughter, promising solid protection for the young quarterback.

What truly sets Lagway apart is his mature approach to the game. When asked about his reserved celebration style, he explained, “Because the game’s not over… like what Kobe said, the job’s not finished.” This mindset, combined with his natural talent and strong support system, has many believing he could be destined for greatness.

Perhaps most telling is his response when asked to choose between winning the Heisman Trophy or a National Championship – without hesitation, Lagway chose the team achievement: “National Championship.” It’s this combination of individual talent and team-first mentality that has the Gator faithful excited about their future with Lagway at the helm.
