“I think college football the last two years in particular has proven to us that a veteran team that has a really strong culture, the team chemistry, the morale, the leadership. That’s what’s getting it done right now,” Napier explains, setting the tone for what he envisions for the Gators’ future.
The Gators are showing promising signs of stability, returning 15 of their 22 starters on offense and defense for the 2025 season. The program recently signed their largest high school class under Napier with 26 players, while adding just five strategic transfer portal additions.
While the roster maintains its youth – with 38 of 85 scholarship players being true or redshirt freshmen – the team features an exciting mix of emerging talent and veteran leadership. Second-year standouts DJ Lagway, Jadan Baugh, and Myles Graham return to build on their freshman campaigns, while All-American center Jake Slaughter and Austin Barber anchor the offensive line, and Tyreak Sapp and Caleb Banks provide experience on defense.
“We want players to come here, to start here, and to finish here,” Napier emphasizes, outlining his vision for building a sustainable program focused on long-term success rather than quick fixes.
